Baj - Maverick Race Jurassic Coast Ultra 2023

My names Baj I’m 37 I’m from Shropshire and now live in Bristol I started running January 2020 on my first run I got about 300 yards up the road before I was out of breath and seeing spots. - fast forward about 3 years and I’d moved to Bristol and joined Left Handed Giant run club, met some great people and signed up for my first ultra, the Maverick Adidas Terrex Jurassic Coast 56k. I’d done the Bristol Half and a few 10k’s anyway 32k + was uncharted territory for me, needless to say my nerves were rattling leading up to the race. The first 25k was a blast I felt strong, everything was going to plan, 28k to about 42k I’d found out what endurance athletes mean when they talk about “the dark place” it was hell, all emotions came out, never known cramp like it, never seen hills so daunting. But it’s amazing what we’re capable of, so with the help of the beautiful scenery along the coast and the other LHG runners the 56k was done. I owe a lot to this great club, I’ve met beautiful friends, and ran the race of a lifetime because of it.
